Shinobi no Kuni finally hits the big screen in my country today!
I just want to give my sincerest thanks to SM and to whoever made this possible!!! Finally, I get to see an Arashi member on the big screen in my own country! Now, if only they'd do the same for Narratage and Last Recipe.... ウフフフフフフ (o>艸<) I'm really looking forward to seeing more Japanese films hitting the theatres here! Keeping my fingers crossed~~~ (/ω\)
So, I watched it today! やった〜 And I just wanna share my thoughts on the film. ▼ω▼
***** WARNING: CONTAINS SPOILERS *****10 minutes into the movie and first thing I thought of was, what's with Riida and doors???? 笑
Riida's character is named Mumon (which means "No Gate") because, apparently, "no gate remains barred before him". Couldn't help but think of his character in Kagiheya! 笑
I guess it's safe to conclude that Riida just simply has talent for breaking doors? ウフフフフフフ (*≧艸≦)
The film was an interesting take on the shinobi history and culture. I’ve always thought ninjas were fascinating. Pretty sure, at some point in my life, I even thought of becoming one! 笑 Surely enough, the film didn’t disappoint in fulfilling our ninja fantasies or at least the version of ninja that has always been portrayed in pop culture. But whether or not they actually possessed these “superpowers” is not what I want to discuss about. What I found more compelling is how the film tackled the sad reality of the shinobi life from a refreshing perspective.
Before this post gets too serious though, I just want to point out…. GOSH DAIZEN IS FREAKIN HOT (/ε\*) I just realized that it's the same actor who played Aoshi (which btw is a role he also nailed) in the Rurouni Kenshin live action films. Can you believe that he's 41?????
Tanda na niya pero pucha ang hot pa rin niya ╥﹏╥ You can bet I’ll be on the lookout for Yusuke Iseya from now on!!! ウフフフフフフ (〃▽〃)
*cough cough* Okay, where was I again??? Right, the sad reality!
"You lack what it is to be human"This pretty much says it all.
The movie starts off by giving us a glimpse of what the everyday life of the shinobi clan is like. As the story progresses, one important point is constantly highlighted. Ninjas, basically, have no regard for humanity. All they ever do is fight and kill. They will do anything for money. They don't even care about who leads them as long as they get paid. The don't have a sense of comradeship, whatsoever. Pretty much, naive.
And I think the way they added humor to the characters' naivety was what made the film entertaining. The scenes were just too hilarious. Seriously, I was LOL-ing so hard in the cinema! (≧艸≦*) Well, it's all fun and games until you realize how sad it actually is...
Okuni's last words perfectly sums it up... "kawaisou" (இ﹏இ`。)
As an audience, you can't help but feel frustrated (you rascals!!! how dare u kill Okuni?!????!! Dammit! Who here is guilty of crying???????? Man, I bawled like a baby!) but at the same time, feel sorry for them. They have essentially forgotten what it is to be human. It makes you think... is it even their fault that they turned out that way? How culture can shape you can be really scary....
But if there's one thing the film has taught us, it's that people can change. Mumon's transition from a heartless mercenary to someone who finally realized that he did "lack what it is to be human" perfectly encapsulates this. And I think the main highlight of the film was Mumon's scream at the end. It's the point where it made us go, "Ah, he's finally human...".
It was beautiful and just heart-wrenching..... ༼☯﹏☯༽
Initially, the main reason why I really looked forward to seeing this film was because of the actors. Got too excited thinking about the love triangle....... I mean, y'all know what I'm talking about..... ಠ‿↼ ウフフフフフフ
Chinen ▻ Riida ▻ Satomi
(Not actually sure if Riida is still into Satomi until now, but I STILL SHIP THEM SO HARD SO WHATEVERRR)
But the film exceeded my expectations, and it was just honestly amazing and enlightening!!! (灬♥ω♥灬) It defintely strikes a perfect balance between comedy and drama, and of course with jam-packed action! Giving it a solid 10/10! ✨
